Current US Senator Sees 20% Approval From Voters
A recent poll of Georgia republicans released last week showed that Senator Loeffler (R-GA) is facing the heat ahead of the special electoral proceedings later this year.
Georgia’s Governor Brian Kemp appointed Loeffler as a senator in December 2019, after Senator Johnny Isakson announced he would retire at the end of the year, due to poor health.
Because she got her seat via an appointment rather than an election, the constitution demands that Loeffler will need to win a special election at the start of November so that she can serve the remaining two years left in Isakson’s term.
Recent polls suggest that Loeffler currently trails her opposition, Congressman Doug Collins(R-GA), by 19 points.
Loeffler’s previous role as CEO of Bakkt, in addition to her financial background, has led to several accusations of misconduct on her part as a senator.
Loeffler’s husband, Jerry Sprecher, the CEO of the Intercontinental Exchange, the parent of the NYSE, and Bakkt. In a move that raised lots of eyebrows, Loeffler and her husband sold off several investments worth millions of dollars following a congressional meeting in January. The meeting was centered on the U.S response to coronavirus.
The senator has since promised to sell all holdings. These accusations follow the skepticism associated with Loeffler’s role on the Senate Agriculture Committee (a committee which oversees commodities trading like what Bakkt does in the U.S).
