Dark Web Is A Breeding Ground For Stolen Credit Card
The dark web has been a breeding ground for lots of illicit activities over the years. From child pornography to stolen merchandise, just name it, the dark is the destination for everything the normal web cannot provide.
Recently, a research team stumbled upon a massive data dump of credit cards put on sale on the dark web.
Cyble Research Team revealed a large chunk of data of close to 100,000 credit cards on sale on the dark web. The data shows that these cards have been gotten from different parts of the world.
According to the research, the data leak involved credit card details from various countries. The cards from the US were 33,000, France 14,000, Australia 5,000, UK 5,000, Canada 2,000, India 1,300, and Singapore 1,200.
According to Cyble, the cards include both Visa and MasterCard.
The price of each card is $5 per unit irrespective of the value of the card. The price is paid in crypto, and upon purchase, the buyer gets the CVV code, the name of the cardholder, as well as the expiration date.
According to Cyble, the names of the country was unveiled thanks to the leak of billing information. The info came with the card holder’s address, thus making it easy for the company to track the origin of each card.
The research does not indicate where the hackers obtained the data from, but Cyble insists it could be from an online store the hackers might have had access to.
Cyble has developed a search engine so people can search their personal information to see if it was leaked on the dark web. Overall, their search engine contains more than 40 billion records.
Stolen Data Sold On Dark Web
Hackers are finding the dark web to be a thriving group to sell their stolen data. Cyble reported another data breach involving close to 50 million Indian Truecaller records on sale on the dark web.
A group of hackers gained access to the Ethereum.org forum and placed three popular wallets on sale.
In addition, anonymous hackers stole over 130 million Russian car owners’ data and placed it on the dark web in exchange for cryptocurrencies.
