Blockchain Community Marks The End Of Slavery In the U.S.
The blockchain community gave a rousing support of Juneteenth, which marks the end of slavery in the U.S.
Juneteenth is a day that celebrates the end of slavery in the U.S. The day is celebrated every June 19, since 1867. Following the death of George Floyd, the day holds even more importance.
Blockchain Community Championing The Day
The blockchain community has remembered the day and its significance in history.
“Recognizing and celebrating Juneteenth today. It’s striking how many of us weren’t taught about this historic day growing up. Today, at Ripple is making Juneteenth a company holiday to acknowledge and take action to root out systemic racism. This is long overdue,” said Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse.
Isaiah Jackson, the author of “Bitcoin and Black America,” said the emerging economic strength could be of tremendous help to the black community in several ways these current protests won’t.
Bitcoin Depot, a multi-cryptocurrency ATM network, praised the 155th anniversary of Juneteenth. The company mentioned that the day is a historical day to commemorate freedom.
The Need For Donations
ConsenSys also spoke about the importance of the date. They sent out a publication asking people to donate their crypto to various bodies fighting racism.
“At ConsenSys, we’re observing Juneteenth globally. It’s a day for reflection, education, and supporting Black lives everywhere,” the statement said.
